Le Mans & Formula E Update (v8.5) ... What a Sucky Update!
I think the Driver and Tuning changes suck!
Tuning
The community may have requested tuning ... this is not tuning!
What FM have done is given us temporary upgrades.
Tuning could have been great if properly implemented.
- Tuning parts are upgrades.
- Tuning is associated permanently with a car, not the driver, and not just for the SE.
- Purchased tuning can be adjusted to suit the event and track.
Drivers should not affect a car’s performance, that is ridiculous.
This is not a driver-management game, it is a racing game.
SE Tuning and Driver Levels means we now upgrade the same car multiple times.
Driver XP
Putting aside how absurd it is that driver levels affect car performance, this is obviously a method to ensure we play more which FM can then use to generate advertising revenue. It takes absurdly long to earn enough XP to level-up (25,000 XP requires about 100 laps of Daytona Road Course) so this is now a massive drain on our time. M$ are limited (daily and max) so earning XP is a protracted process or race earnings are lost. And after all of that we still have to pay Gold to level-up, so Driver XP is meaningless, it should be one or the other. I suspect that very soon Driver XP will be another IAP, yet another currency.
Another issue is that because we can’t FU these cars our (WT)TT Drive is limited (so we have to wait or pay Gold) and customization extras (paint, vinyl packs, wheels etc) will no longer be free.
None of these changes benefit the player, this is all about generating revenue for FM, directly through IAP of currencies and indirectly through the play-time (it takes to earn XP) being used for advertising.
Community Feedback
The recent survey was a joke as FM had already decided what they were going to do!
If FM are really interested in community feedback and improving the game ...
- Proper tuning.
- Fix the (2 year old) throttle and brake failure bugs.
- Stop OMP cutting by placing blocks at cut points (rather than the poorly coded penalty routines which punish braking mistakes but not cutting!)
- Improve controls e.g. constant throttle.
- Feedback of what the car is doing ... I suggested a couple methods more than a year ago on Reddit, FM didn’t bother responding!
- Make track limits consistent and let us know where they are! I suspect they refuse to do this because their off-track detection is poor.
- Weather effects.
- NOTE: gameplay and race content has not improved since the game was released 7 years ago!
- Rear-view mirror.
- TT Ghost optional.
- Car customization. More colours. More layers. More vinyl packs. Text layer. Combined paint-through and mirror modes. Separate resize and rotate controls. Finer placement of vinyls. Undo feature. etc etc etc.
All of this has been repeatedly mentioned (here on the Wiki, on Facebook, on Reddit, etc) over the last few years. FM invite feedback and then ignore it.
