Full Upgrades Bonus
Fully upgraded cars now get special bonuses - race twice as far before needing to service, customize for free, and run Time Trial without using Drive!
— What's new in Jaguar Update (v4.5.1)
A fully upgraded car can race twice as long before servicing, customize for FREE and does not use DRIVE
— In-game description

Upgrading parts on your car helps to boost your performance. Upgrades can affect four different performance stats: Top Speed, Acceleration (0–60mph time), Braking Distance (60–0mph), and Grip (lateral Gs). Upgrading your car increases its PR (Performance Rating), which is sometimes necessary in order to participate in Cup events that have a PR requirement.

Upgrades can be purchased for R$ or Gold. All upgrades purchased with R$ take time to research and develop, unless you have purchased VIP service for the relevant car, in which case they're completed instantly. If you do not have VIP service for the car, the upgrade's research and development can be accelerated using Gold. All Gold upgrades are always completed instantly.

What are Upgrades?[]

Upgrades are one of the key things in Real Racing 3 that will get you through a series without buying more cars. Upgrades are the only way to improve a car's PR (Performance Rating) in the game. Upgrades will boost the car's top speed, acceleration, braking distance, and grip, and can help win tougher races.

Once a car is fully upgraded, it is subject to the following benefits:

  • The car can race twice as far before having to service.
  • You can customize your car for free.
  • No Drive is required to run Time Trials.
  • Certain cars have access to their associated Exclusive Series.

Types of Upgrades[]

There are 7 different parts of the car that the player can upgrade that will improve two performance stats. Not all the types are in all the cars. Here are the types and what they improve.

  1. Engine = Higher Top Speed (mph/kph) and Faster Acceleration (s)
  2. Drivetrain = Faster Acceleration (s) and Higher Top Speed (mph/kph)
  3. Body = Higher Top Speed (mph/kph) and Faster Acceleration (s)
  4. Suspension = Higher Cornering (g) and Shorter Braking (ft/m)
  5. Exhaust = Higher Top Speed (mph/kph) and Faster Acceleration (s)
  6. Brakes = Shorter Braking (ft/m) and Higher Cornering (g)
  7. Tires & Wheels = Higher Cornering (g) and Faster Acceleration (s)

Upgrades are often referred to in the above order, for example: (3121023) = 1st, 2nd and 3rd Engine upgrade, 1st Drivetrain, 1st and 2nd Body, 1st Suspension, no Exhaust, 1st and 2nd Brakes and 1st, 2nd and 3rd Tires & Wheels.

VIP Service[]

Purchasing VIP service for a car means that the car is delivered instantly and that all upgrades you purchase for that car are also completed instantly. You can purchase VIP service for a car as you're buying the car, or from the Upgrades section.
