TuningSetups

Tuning, Drivers and Principals (also known collectively as Power 2), first introduced in Update 8.5 and finalized in Update 8.7, is a feature that replaces traditional upgrades for newly-introduced cars in the Motorsports category. The intention of this page is to provide information and data regarding Power 2.

Overview[]

Power 2 is split into three "upgradable" categories: Tuning, Drivers and Principals. Details of these categories are detailed in the following sub-sections. To some extent, these three categories are independent from each other and are individually "upgradable".

There are 4 improvement categories: Top Speed (S,Speed Icon), Acceleration (A,Acceleration Icon), Brakes (B,Braking Icon) and Grip (G,Grip Icon), in order. Investments in Tuning, Drivers and/or Principal improvements will positively affect one or more of the above stats.

Currencies associated with Power 2 cars and series are Curr.M.Dollars.New.80x80.Shifted and Curr.Gold.New.80x80.Shifted.

Note that in all Special Events involving Power 2 cars, players can choose any prize car upon completing the event, regardless of the car chosen to complete the event. For example, a player can use the MERCEDES-AMG W11 to complete a Formula 1® Grand Prix™ special event, but choose the McLAREN F1® TEAM McLAREN MCL35 as the prize car upon completion (as long as the McLaren isn't already owned), since both cars are part of the 2020 F1® Series.

Try out different Tuning Setups to see which works best on each track
— In-game description

There are 4 tuning categories: Speed, Acceleration, Brakes and Grip, and are directly related to the 4 stats mentioned above. For example, one speed tune will improve top speed only, with no effects on other stats.

A player must own a Tuning Setup to apply tuning. All tuning steps apply to the currently-installed Tuning Setup only.

Tuning Setups are acquired from completing special events involving the same motorsports series. There is no difference in individual tuning steps—that is, the price, waiting time and PR increase of a particular tuning step is the same across all tuning setups of the same motorsport category. The only difference is the max number of tunes available for each stat. For example, there are two Tuning Setups available for the GTE 2020 Season: Race Day: Le Mans 2020 and 2020 GTE Endurance Championship. These two setups allow max tuning steps of 10-7-8-3 and 6-7-7-8, respectively, but the price and PR increase for one particular tune (given that this step is available for both setups) is the same.

In Special Events, only the Tuning Setup from that special event can be applied and used.

However, outside of special events, any previously earned Tuning Setup can be applied to any owned car it is available for. One tuning setup can be simultaneously applied to however many cars in the same motorsport category. Applying tuning setups to a car will give Principal XP to the car's Team Principal. Applying one tuning step will also give Principal XP (Principal XP is further discussed in the following § Principals section). The first tuning setup applied to a car is free and instant, whereas swapping to another setup later on will cost Curr.M.Dollars.New.80x80.Shifted and will have a wait time.

Tuning costs, Tuning Setups including their swapping costs and PR increases vary with different motorsport series and are detailed in the following § Data Tables section.

Drivers[]

Power2-DriverDetails

Driver menu example:
Pic 2.1: Lvl 1 driver with 0 XP
Pic 2.2: Lvl 1 driver with enough XP to level-up.
Pic 2.3: Driver level-up conformation.

Drivers earn XP by racing. Better race results award more XP.
— In-game description
Level up your Driver to permanently improve all your car's stats and raise its PR
— In-game description

Every Power 2 car has one or more driver(s). Each driver starts with Driver Level 1 and level 8 is usually the max level. Each driver has an unique racing number (and an unique car livery, in some cases) that gets applied to the car. Players can assign any one of the drivers to the car for free.

Completing races will earn Driver XP for the driver in use. XP values vary with the event and finishing position, and are documented on the series/events pages. Once a certain XP is reached, the player can level-up the driver by spending Curr.Gold.New.80x80.Shifted. Excess XP will be carried over to the next level. Alternately, players can also spend Curr.M.Dollars.New.80x80.Shifted to train the driver in order to gain XP enough for the next driver level (essentially purchasing Driver XP). Curr.Gold.New.80x80.Shifted-spending is required for leveling-up either way.

Every increase in driver level will increase the car's PR as long as this driver is selected. All 4 stats will be positively affected. Switching to another driver will affect the car's stats according to the other driver's level. Switching drivers is free and can be done for however many times.

Required driver XP, level-up costs, optional training costs and PR increases vary with motorsport series and driver level, and are documented in the following § Data Tables section.

Unlimited drive for Time Trials is available when using a max-level driver.

Principals[]

Power2-PrincipalDetails

Principal menu example:
Pic 3.1: Lvl 1 principal with 0 XP
Pic 3.2: Lvl 1 principal with enough XP to level-up.
Pic 3.3: Principal level-up research focus selection and conformation.

Principals earn XP whenever tuning is completed on your car.
— In-game description
The Team Principal strategizes how to optimize your race car. When they level up, you can choose a car stat to research and improve.
— In-game description

Every Power 2 car has one Team Princpal that cannot be changed. Principals start with Principal Level 1 and level 13 is usually the max level.

Similar to drivers, principals require Principal XP to level up. Once a certain XP is reached, the player can level-up the principal by spending Curr.Gold.New.80x80.Shifted. Excess XP will be carried over to the next level. Principal XP can be earned via:

  • Tuning (installing an individual tuning step;
  • Swapping Tuning Setups.

Both ways will earn a certain amount of Principal XP for the principal of the car that the action was performed on. The precise value vary with motorsport series and are documented in the following § Data Tables section.

Once Principal XP is enough, the player can choose to level-up the principal. Doing so, the player must choose to either improve the Top Speed, Acceleration, Brakes, or Grip for the car (as shown in picture 3.3), with all other stats remaining the same. This is known as Selecting Research Focus. For the common 13-level principal (12 level-ups to max), a maximum of 3 principal level-ups are available for each stat. Principal level-up Curr.Gold.New.80x80.Shifted costs and PR increases are independent from the chosen research focus.

Required principal XP, level-up costs and PR increases vary with motorsport series and principal level, and are documented in the following § Data Tables section.

Once the principal is at max-level, the car will have double durability and swapping tuning setups will be free and instant.

Related Templates[]

In addition to the tables that follow, here are some useful templates and arrays that will come in handy when dealing with Power 2 data.

Template Description
Template:CalcPR Extremely useful and versatile template. One can use this to calculate PR increase, XP and all associated costs for any desired driver/principal/tuning combination.
Template:ArrTuning Array, storing all Power 2 Data. Many templates, including this page itself, gets data from there.
User:Albert Tasmani/
Template/TuningChartV2
Generates a graphic to show characteristics of a specific tuning setup. Commonly used on special event pages.
Template:TuningSetup Generates a partial tuning data table for a specific tuning setup. Instead of all 10 rows, it only shows the relevant tuning steps for this setup.

Generates the data tables found on this page.
  • Feel free to add more useful templates to the table above.
