MERCEDES-AMG PETRONAS FORMULA ONE® TEAM (then known as MERCEDES-AMG PETRONAS MOTORSPORT) is a FORMULA 1® racing team owned by MERCEDES-BENZ that runs under a German license. Based in Brackley, Northamptonshire, United Kingdom, the team has participated in FORMULA 1® since 2010, having previously featured as Brawn GP during the 2009 season. Since 2013, the team has been led by Toto Wolff.
The team has notable drivers consisting of seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher, who returned from a four year hiatus from F1® and the father of future F1® driver Mick Schumacher, who is currently signed as the team's reserve driver after his departure from HAAS after the end of the 2022 season. Nico Rosberg, son of F1® legend Keke Rosberg, joined alongside Schumacher following his departure from WILLIAMS RACING at the end of the 2009 season and the 2016 world champion. The current driver line-up for MERCEDES are Lewis Hamilton and George Russell, both are from the United Kingdom. Hamilton is a seven-time world champion, tied with Michael Schumacher's. Hamilton's long-standing rivalry with Nico Rosberg was one of the hot issues in and out of the grid throughout the 2013 to 2016 seasons until Rosberg's retirement at the end of the latter season. George Russell, who previously raced for WILLIAMS from 2019 to 2021, briefly filled in for Hamilton during the 2020 Sakhir Grand Prix when he was recovering from COVID-19. And by the end of the 2021 season, Russell would leave WILLIAMS and joined MERCEDES alongside Hamilton.
